Ferran Torres is enjoying one of the best moments of his career, and his form has come at the perfect time for Spain.

The Barcelona forward has been a revelation under Hansi Flick. This season he has started both of Barça’s La Liga matches and has scored a goal in each.

Now, that run of form is set to earn him a central role with the national team, as Luis de la Fuente prepares his squad for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

With Alvaro Morata struggling for rhythm at Como, Spain are in need of a reliable striker who is fully match-ready.

As such, according to SPORT, Ferran ticks all the boxes. He has been used as a number 9 by Flick at Barcelona, where he has combined intelligent pressing, sharp movement, and a clinical edge in front of goal.

Those qualities make him the ideal candidate to lead Spain’s attack in the qualifiers against Bulgaria and Turkey.

Spain’s best option up front

De la Fuente has always valued Ferran’s versatility, but this time his role will be very clear – he will be the number 9.

His recent goals show he can score in different ways – a long-range strike against Mallorca highlighted his technical quality, while his opportunistic finish from a corner against Levante showed the instincts of a pure striker.

Beyond his finishing, Ferran also brings intensity. He presses from the front, disrupts defenders, and creates spaces for midfield runners, something that fits perfectly into Spain’s style of play.

Approaching international milestone

At just 25, he is also on the verge of a major milestone, which is his 50th cap for Spain.

With 21 goals already, he sits only two away from breaking into the top 10 scorers in La Roja’s history.

All signs point to Ferran becoming Spain’s go-to number 9. His current form, his confidence, and his growing maturity on the pitch put him in the best position to take on the responsibility.

If he delivers in these qualifiers, Spain may have finally found their long-term striker solution.
