“Incredible data” has Chelsea directors salivating over powerful Premier League talent to compete with Jackson

Another week, another impressive showing from Liam Delap in the Premier League.

The Ipswich striker didn’t score, but took advantage of playing Man U in the weekend’s final game to show what he could do once again. He’s a hard worker, a menace physically and really looks to have a top tier will to win.

On his Substack, our writer Simon Phillips has confirmed the Chelsea interest in the striker, saying he’s heard from “three” of his “best sources” that the “interest is more than legit.”

“I expect Chelsea to soon make an enquiry at the very least,” he confirms. Joe Shields is “pushing the interest” due to Delap’s “incredible” underlying data and numbers.

“Delap would represent a striker coming in as serious competition for Jackson rather than to initially take his starting spot in the league” Phillips concludes. That would make sense, given that right now Jackson is in superb form and the idea of signing someone to play instead of him sounds challenging.

We can’t expect him to stay fit forever, and the sooner we find a backup for him the better. Marc Guiu doesn’t look ready yet, and Christopher Nkunku offers just a totally different profile of attacker.

Delap joins list with Aston Vila and Porto attackers

The talk in recent windows has been more about established, elite level strikers like Victor Osimhen. But as Jackson’s development has continued, the chatter around that type of player has faded, while we get more and more links with younger players more in Delap’s vein.

Last summer it was Samu Agehowa and Jhon Duran – young, talented and capable of playing the style that Jackson does, without demanding first team minutes or first team wages. We can add Delap to that list now, it seems.
