Arsenal’s defensive stalwart William Saliba was forced to leave the pitch during the recent clash with Liverpool, and his injury has now prevented him from joining the France national team for the current international break. The setback has raised concerns, given his vital role at the club.
Saliba has established himself as one of the most reliable defenders in world football, with his consistency and resilience making him a cornerstone of Arsenal’s resurgence. Last season, he featured in 35 Premier League matches, missing only three, while also appearing in 11 Champions League fixtures and a further five domestic cup games. Such durability has been instrumental in strengthening Arsenal’s reputation at the highest level.
The defender’s exceptional fitness record has allowed him to maintain a presence at the heart of the team, and his availability has often been regarded as a key factor in Arsenal’s ability to compete with elite clubs. With his influence stretching beyond defensive stability, his injury has naturally prompted speculation about the potential impact on the squad in the weeks ahead.

Although his withdrawal from the France squad may have initially suggested a serious problem, an injury expert has since offered a more optimistic assessment. Speaking to Metro Sport, Stephen Smith explained, “With this, they will be able to get that right quite quickly, I would have thought. They will be able to protect it and strap it up if needed and be able to get back out there relatively quickly. It didn’t appear to be a significant sprain, we would expect to see him back out there within two to three weeks.”
These comments provide reassurance that the setback may not lead to a long-term absence. Arsenal supporters will be hoping the defender’s recovery aligns with this timeline, given the importance of maintaining stability in the back line during a demanding run of fixtures.
Saliba’s consistent performances have proven crucial, and his fitness remains one of the most significant assets for the club. Ensuring his swift return will be vital not only for Arsenal’s ambitions in the league but also for their progress in European competition. The coming weeks will reveal how quickly he can recover and resume his place as one of the pillars of the side.
