Inter president Giuseppe Marotta offered a different version of what happened in January compared to what Joao Felix stated in his introductory presser at Milan talking to DAZN before the Fiorentina game (via Fantacalcio).
“We didn’t start any negotiation to sign him. We mulled the options that were available at the time and could have left their teams, but we decided to stand pat. Therefore, we didn’t go past our initial interest, it being understood that we respect the player.”
Marotta was quizzed about the lack of production by their backups.
“Statistically speaking, we are a prolific team and have the best attack in Serie A. It’s a rarity when we don’t score or don’t create a lot. It’s not our problem. We have no major issues in general. In some moments, we have to stay concentrated to bring home the results when we are ahead.”
Instead, Marotta stated that the Nerazzurri are spent.
“It is absolutely true. We have nothing to blame our squad and coach for. They are serious professionals who always give their best effort. It’s a heavy stretch from a psycho-physical standpoint. It’s not an alibi, and it doesn’t happen only to us. We’ll have to be even more capable in turning this flaw into a virtue and adapt to the schedule that’s even too taxing.”
Inter reduced the gap from the top of the table following Monday’s win and Napoli’s stumble against Udinese. Marcus Thuram, Alessandro Bastoni, and Marko Arnautovic subbed off due to minor injuries against Fiorentina. The Frenchman will need to be assessed due to an ankle contusion, the other two because of muscular issues, Sky informs.
