After Inter Milan fell 0-1 to Liverpool, center-back Manuel Akanji described the result as difficult to accept.

Speaking to InterTV via FCInterNews, the 30-year-old star revealed his disappointment with the outcome.

Manuel Akanji faced a race against time to recover for tonight’s fixture.

Indeed, the Manchester City loanee missed yesterday’s training due to illness.

However, Cristian Chivu included the Swiss ace in his starting lineup.

Furthermore, Akanji looked unfazed by his recent health problems, delivering another reassuring performance.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to save Inter from losing their second consecutive Champions League game.

Referee Felix Zwayer awarded a highly controversial penalty to Liverpool in the 88th minute, with Dominik Szoboszlai seizing the chance.

Though Zwayer’s decision decided an evenly contested match at San Siro, it’s worth noting that Inter’s performance failed to impress.

Yet, the Nerazzurri deserved more, only for the German official’s late call to snatch the points away from Chivu’s side.

As a result, Inter have now lost five of their seven European clashes against Liverpool.

“It’s tough to lose a match like this, especially because of a penalty given in that way,” Akanji said after the match.

“It hurts, but the positive thing is that if we play like this, we can still finish in the top eight of the group.”

Meanwhile, Akanji commented on his positional change after Francesco Acerbi’s injury.

Indeed, Inter lost the veteran center-back to injury midway through the first half.

“There are many matches, injuries are part of football.”

Liverpool inflicted Inter’s second Champions League defeat under Chivu, casting further doubt on their top-eight ambitions.

Indeed, the Serie A giants are now at risk of finishing round six outside the top eight.

Hopefully, the Nerazzurri can bounce back when they take on Serie A minnows Genoa next weekend.
