Inter Milan wingback Carlos Augusto hailed the team’s chemistry after tonight’s hard-fought 1-0 home victory over Lecce.
Speaking to DAZN via FCInterNews, the former Monza star also discussed Inter’s underwhelming first-half performance.
Carlos Augusto made his eighth Serie A start of the season, taking Federico Dimarco’s place on the left wing.
Despite failing to replicate the Italian wingback’s exploits, the 26-year-old fared reasonably well in the second half.
Indeed, Inter often lacked depth on the left side in the opening 45 minutes.
However, Augusto improved after the break, making several dangerous crosses, including the one that nearly led to a goal in the 51st minute.
Augusto found Nicolo Barella with an inch-perfect cross, yet Wladimiro Falcone pulled off a stunning save to thwart the Italian’s header.
Cristian Chivu refused to take the Brazilian ace off, as he often did in the past, leaving Dimarco on the bench.
Therefore, the former Hellas Verona star will likely return to the starting lineup when Inter take on Udinese on Saturday.

Asked how important it is for Inter to be crowned winter champions, Augusto replied: “Of course. It gives confidence to the group.
“We have experienced players who understand this phase of the season.
“It was a difficult match against a team that defends well, but we did our job, and we have to keep going like this.”
Meanwhile, he also commented on Chivu’s decision to hand the squad a day off right before the match.
“This is the first time it’s happened to me,” he added. “The coach has our trust and knows that we’re players who do everything for Inter and to help him.
“He knows we’re responsible and that the most important thing is staying focused on the match even without training.
“Today we were all ready to play.”
Furthermore, he assessed Inter’s disappointing first-half display.
“The first half was a bit complicated because of us; we were slow on the ball and not ourselves.
“But there are matches like that – you can’t score five goals every game.
“They did their job very well and defended deep. After the goal, we showed that this group is united for the cause, which is to win.”
Finally, he addressed Napoli’s dismal 0-0 home draw against Parma earlier today.
“In the end, we look at all the matches, but we have to stay focused on ourselves. If we don’t win, what happens elsewhere doesn’t matter.”
