Inter Milan were held to a 2-2 draw by Napoli in the Serie A top-of-the-table clash at the San Siro on Sunday.
Federico Dimarco got Inter off to a flying start, opening the scoring in the ninth minute when he picked out the far corner from an acute angle.
Napoli equalised with their first chance. Eljif Elmas whipped a low cross into the area, and Scott McTominay got in front of Manuel Akanji to tuck the ball into the net.
McTominay then forced goalkeeper Yan Sommer to make his first save of the game, as Napoli pushed to take the lead.
Vanja Milinkovic-Savic was also called into action at the other end before the break, tipping Marcus Thuram’s header over before collecting Yann Bisseck’s tame effort.
Rasmus Hojlund almost put Napoli ahead after the break, showing athleticism and strength to latch onto Milinkovic-Savic’s pass, but his effort drifted wide.
Inter were awarded a penalty after Amir Rrahmani fouled Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Napoli manager Antonio Conte was sent off for protesting the decision.
Hakan Calhanoglu stepped up to convert, sending Milinkovic-Savic the wrong way to restore the hosts’ lead.
Napoli drew level again through McTominay in the 81st minute. He volleyed the ball home to net his fifth league goal of the campaign.
Mkhitaryan nearly secured maximum points for the Nerazzurri in stoppage time but was denied by the woodwork.
Inter still top the standings, three points clear of second-placed AC Milan, who drew 1-1 at Fiorentina.
