Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez admits the Nerazzurri “have to improve” after their Club World Cup opening day draw with Monterrey.
The Argentine spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews, after the 1-1 draw.
Inter Milan faced Monterrey in their first match of the Club World Cup group stage.
The Nerazzurri dominated possession, and created a number of good chances against the Mexican side. However, they were far from clinical with the dangerous situations they had.
On the other hand, Monterrey were able to fashion a number of decent chances. Particularly on the counterattack and from set pieces.
Therefore, Inter kicked off their Club World Cup campaign by settling for a point. Sergio Ramos opened the scoring for Monterrey, before Nerazzurri captain Lautaro Martinez responded with the equalizer.
Both of those goals came before halftime. Then, in the second half neither of the two teams was able to get on the scoresheet again.
This match was also the beginning of a new era for Inter. It was the first with Cristian Chivu as coach after the departure of Simone Inzaghi.

After the match, Inter captain Lautaro Martinez gave the view that “we did well.”
“The pitch was a bit dry,” the 27-year-old continued. “We had some trouble moving the ball around.”
Martinez then noted that “I also played the Copa America here.”
“And it was the same then,” said the Argentine.
“However, this is what they chose. And we have to adapt to it.”
“It’s the first match,” Martinez added. “I’m happy and calm.”
Then, the Inter captain noted that “we conceded a goal from a set piece.”
“That’s one are we need to improve,” he admitted. “Because we were starting to defend zonally, something that’s new for us.”
“Now we have to move forward. The tournament is just getting started, and we have to improve a lot.”
