Speaking to La Repubblica via FCInterNews, El Toro drew comparisons between the two managers.

Al-Hilal signed Simone Inzaghi only days after Paris Saint-Germain tore Inter apart in the Champions League.

However, Inter’s painful defeat in Munich cast a shadow on the 49-year-old’s otherwise successful tenure at the San Siro.

During his four-year stint at Inter, Inzaghi won several domestic trophies, including the 2023/24 Scudetto.

Furthermore, he steered the club to two Champions League finals in three years.

Therefore, it’s fair to admit he had built a dynasty.

It’s now up to Cristian Chivu to maintain Inzaghi’s legacy and keep the club at the top of domestic and international football.

Despite being relatively new to senior management, Chivu had plenty of success as a player, particularly with Inter.

As such, there’s optimism around the Nerazzurri camp that the Romanian will hit the ground running on his return.

It’s hard to escape the proposition that Inzaghi turned Lautaro Martinez into the best version of himself.

Indeed, he built his entire Nerazzurri project around El Toro.

Considering Lautaro’s household status, it’s only natural to assume that he will remain the focal point under Chivu.

Meanwhile, the Argentine star has already spotted minor differences between the two managers’ approach.

“The important thing is the fresh atmosphere, the new things – even if the ideas and the message are similar to Inzaghi’s,” he said.

“What matters most is that we all give our best in this competition.

“There will definitely be some changes in the way we press, but we’re working on it.

“There’s not much time. Those who were with their national teams started 2–3 days later, even though it’s still the same group as last year.

“But some youngsters have come back, and they’ll give us a big boost.”
