Simone Inzaghi feels that his Inter Milan team would have been worth a victory in last weekend’s Serie A clash with Genoa.

The coach spoke to InterTV, via FCInterNews, after yesterday’s 2-0 win over Lecce.

Inter are now off the mark with a win in Serie A. They took three points from their match at home against Lecce yesterday evening.

The Nerazzurri’s title defense did not get off to the start that they had hoped for, however.

Inter had to settle for a draw in their opening match of the campaign.

Late drama at the Marassi meant that Inter failed to beat Genoa away in their opener, something they have not done since 2020.

Of course, victory in the second match has gone some way towards erasing that disappointment for Inter.

But in the view of Nerazzurri coach Inzaghi, the team could already have won last weekend.

Simone Inzaghi: “Inter Deserved To Win” Vs Genoa

“We were licking our wounds all week after the draw in Genoa,” Inzaghi admitted.

“There was a minute left to go, and we had to get it over the line.”

Inzaghi said that “We might have deserved to win. But we came up against a great team.”

“But the guys looked great in training to me, so I was optimistic for today,” the Inter coach said of yesterday’s clash with Lecce.

Of his strikers, Inzaghi said that “I’m happy with all my forwards.”

“Including with Arnautovic when he came on,” the coach continued.

Of Mehdi Taremi, who made his first Serie A start yesterday, Inzaghi said that “Mehdi has always put himself at the service of the team, and now he has to keep going the way he has been.”

“He’s a player who’s played in many international matches,” Inzaghi said of the Iranian former Porto striker.

“He’s arrived in this team. And now he’s serving us in the best way possible.”
