Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi feels that while the neutrals may have enjoyed today’s Serie A clash with Juventus, his team didn’t.

The Nerazzurri coach spoke in a press conference after the 4-4 Derby d’Italia draw, as reported by FCInterNews.

In recent years, the Derby d’Italia has gained something of a reputation for being a tense and cagey affair.

There have been a few high-scoring editions of the fixture.

But with coaches like Antonio Conte and Max Allegri helming the respective teams, clashes between Inter and Juventus have often been decided by one or two goals.

That was certainly not the case this evening.

Inter scored four goals. But so did Juventus. It was a thrilling and unpredictable match that was undeniably a spectacle.

But that’s not necessarily what either team’s coach would have wanted.

And it particularly was not what Inter were hoping for when they had a two-goal cushion in the second half.

Inter Coach Inzaghi: “Neutrals Enjoyed Juventus Thriller, We Didn’t”

After the match, Inter coach Inzaghi bitterly remarked that “The neutrals must have enjoyed it.”

“We and our fans, less so.”

“This was a particular Derby d’Italia,” the Nerazzurri coach said. “We have to accept it, but we did it.”

“We conceded four shots on target against Juventus, which can happen. But not conceding four goals.”

“And then we had 15-16 shots,” the Inter coach said.

Meanwhile, the Inter coach said that “Zielinski played an excellent match,” in the absence of Hakan Calhanoglu.

Of his team’s defensive issues early on this sesason, Inzaghi said that “We all need to be more responsible.”

“We’re repeating mistakes. Just look at how the goals came about.”

“It would be hard to talk about just one player,” the Inter coach said of the defensive errors. “As a coach I have to be clear-headed.”

“This is the eleventh time that I’ve come up against Juve, and I’ve never seen my team create 8-9 clear chances to score, against a team who had conceded once in eight matches.”

Meanwhile, Inzaghi dismissed the idea that the introductions of Davide Frattesi and Yann Bisseck changed the match.

“It would be too easy to blame the substitutions,” the coach said.

“In the first half we conceded two similar goals,” he noted.

Inzaghi made clear that “The fault lies with all of Inter.”

“I was a bit shorthanded in terms of the rotation. Because Asllani wasn’t able to come on, and Buchanan trained with the squad for the first time on Friday.”

“I had 4-5 players out, who could’ve maybe helped us out in the last twenty minutes,” Inzaghi said.

And Inzaghi added that “Maybe I would’ve kept Zielinski on the pitch, but he asked for the substitution.”
