Inter Milan wingback Federico Dimarco is finally blossoming as a world-class player as years of patience and loan spells is paying off.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper highlights his importance for both Inter and Italy.

Dimarco is 26 years of age. That is not old by any means, with the Italian international now squarely in his prime years on paper.

But it is only now that Dimarco is truly showing his best form.

Dimarco came through Inter’s youth academy system. And he did get scattered chances with the Nerazzurri early on, making his debut for the senior team under Roberto Mancini.

But Dimarco had to go elsewhere to find his opportunities.

Dimarco joined Ascoli and then Empoli on loan. These gave him playing time and the chance to show what he was capable of with his left foot.

Then, it was a move abroad for Dimarco.

Inter actually sold the young wingback to Swiss club Sion, although retaining a buyback clause.

The Nerazzurri exercised that clause. Dimarco then went on loan to Parma during the 2018-19 season.

And then after a 2019-20 season back at Inter where his opportunities were limited, Dimarco made the move to Hellas Verona.

It was the switch to Verona that really saw Dimarco take the next step.

The Italian spent two seasons on loan at the Gialloblu. There, he played under coach Ivan Juric, currently at Roma.

And playing in the Croatian’s 3-5-2 formation really got the best out of Dimarco.

The Inter wingback largely played at left-wingback, but also got experience at left-centre-back.

Dimarco’s passing and crossing were vital for how Verona played under Juric.

And this earned Dimarco a chance at Inter during the 2021-22 season.

Simone Inzaghi used Dimarco largely as an understudy to Ivan Perisic, although the versatile player also backed up Alessandro Bastoni in defense at times.

Then in the 2022-23 season, Dimarco became a regular starter for Inter.

At the same time, the Italian also became a regular starter for the Azzurri.

Dimarco has been first-choice on the left flank for both Inter and Italy for a couple years now.

And the quality of the 26-year-old’s performances has only increased.

In the view of the Corriere, Dimarco is now a world-class option at left-wingbck.
