Inter Milan stalwart Alessandro Bastoni has emerged as a prototype of a modern-day defender.
Speaking to Ball.Ldn via FCInterNews, the 26-year-old admitted he is glad to have helped change the common perception.
Alessandro Bastoni has been outstanding since breaking onto the grand scene at Giuseppe Meazza in 2017.
Indeed, the Italy international has established himself as one of the best center-backs in Europe, let alone Serie A.
During his rise to stardom at Inter, the former Atalanta ace has earned admiration from numerous top clubs.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has been keen on taking Bastoni to the Premier League for years.
However, the Italian heavyweights have never contemplated the sale of one of their most prized assets.

“I’m very proud of how I’ve helped redefine the role of the modern defender,” Bastoni said.
“Talent alone isn’t enough – you need consistency and an obsession with even the smallest details.
“Hard work always pays off. Representing Italy fills me with pride; there’s no better feeling.”
Meanwhile, Bastoni has never tried to force his exit and is now on the verge of reaping the greatest reward for his loyalty.
Indeed, Inter are potentially 90 minutes away from securing Champions League glory after overcoming Barcelona in the semi-final.
“We knew it wouldn’t be easy,” Bastoni added.
“However, together we showed what Inter are made of. Lamine Yamal tested me more than any player I’ve ever faced.”
Despite Barcelona’s relentless pressure, Bastoni stood firm, especially in the second leg.
He was the last line of defense against Yamal.
While Federico Dimarco and Carlos Augusto struggled against the 17-year-old, Bastoni managed to handle him.
Hopefully, he will be at his best when Inter and PSG face off in the grand final at the Allianz Arena.
