Inter Milan loanee Sebastiano Esposito will not feature against his parent club when Empoli take on Simone Inzaghi’s side on Wednesday.

According to Empoli’s official website, head coach Roberto D’Aversa cannot call upon the 22-year-old’s services due to injury.

Esposito, who linked up with Empoli on a season-long loan in the summer, skipped Sunday’s clash against Parma.

The Azzurri squandered a narrow halftime lead in a 1-1 draw at Stadio Ennio Tardini, extending their winless run to four games.

Indeed, a lack of firepower up front saw D’Aversa’s side score a meager average of 0.5 goals per game during that sequence.

As it turns out, Esposito’s absence has been a major issue.

The prodigious forward has enjoyed a superb start to life at Stadio Carlo Castellani.

In his first seven Serie A appearances for Empoli, he netted two goals and delivered one assist.

Sebastiano Esposito Unavailable for Empoli vs Inter Milan Clash Due to Injury

D’Aversa hoped to have Sebastiano Esposito back to full fitness for tomorrow’s encounter.

However, examinations performed on the Inter loanee have shown a low-grade injury of the left hamstring.

With the Italian center-forward out, AC Milan-owned Lorenzo Colombo will likely take his place in the starting XI.

It will be up to the young gun to help Empoli find the net at home for the first time this season.

But that’s easier said than done.

In addition to firing blanks in all four league outings at the Castellani, they’ve notoriously struggled against Inter.

To put it in perspective, Empoli’s last home goal against the Nerazzurri in Serie A dates back to April 2006.

Since then, they’ve failed to find the back of the net in nine consecutive home league clashes against the Nerazzurri.

Empoli’s long-standing struggles in this fixture can only inspire confidence around Simone Inzaghi’s camp.

Inter will be out to atone for a 4-4 draw against Juventus and stay within striking distance of Napoli.
