Inter Milan president Beppe Marotta hit back at his AC Milan counterpart, Paolo Scaroni, in his latest interview.
During his chat with the press, as reported by FCInterNews, Marotta aimed a dig at the Rossoneri after Scaroni’s taunting statement recently.
Paolo Scaroni named Milan the ‘biggest club’ in the city despite the club’s substantial struggles under new manager Paulo Fonseca.
Fonseca’s side headed into November’s international break outside the European qualification spots in Serie A.
Meanwhile, Inter failed to beat Napoli in Sunday’s top-table six-pointer at Giuseppe Meazza.
Though Antonio Conte’s side held the Nerazzurri to a 1-1 draw, only a point separates the two teams after 12 rounds.
Indeed, Simone Inzaghi’s men are back on track following a stuttering start to their Serie A title defense.
Inter won their 20th Scudetto last term in formidable fashion.
They left runners-up Milan 19 points behind and now boast one more title than their fierce rivals.
Commenting on Scaroni’s recent statement, Marotta said: “It depends on the point of view.
“If the only team in Milan is represented by him, it’s because we represent something even greater.
“But I don’t want to create controversy, Paolo is a friend. Each of us, rightly, tries to carry forward our own club, calling it the best overall.
“We have two stars, and I hope Milan can reach them soon.”
Milan entered the new campaign determined to dethrone Inter.
However, they already lag eight points behind the early Scudetto pace.
Despite having a game in hand, Fonseca’s charges seem incapable of closing the gap.
In addition to notorious problems with inconsistency, there’s an unhealthy atmosphere in the dressing room.
Rafael Leao and Theo Hernandez have had a fallout with Fonseca.
Therefore, Milan will likely have to wait a while longer to match Inter’s title haul in Serie A.
