Inter Milan Vice-President Javier Zanetti doesn’t see any concerns with the “reintegration” of midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu.

Zanetti spoke to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews. He downplayed the idea that Calhanoglu could have trouble fitting back into the squad after summer transfer drama.

Hakan Calhanoglu looks set for a stay at Inter Milan this summer.

For the last several weeks, there have been strong rumours that the Turkish international could leave the Nerazzurri after four seasons at the club.

Reportedly, Galatasaray have been pushing for Calhanoglu’s signature.

However, the Turkish champions could not come close to meeting Inter’s asking price for the 31-year-old. Therefore, the negotiations between the two clubs seemingly broke down before they could get started.

Behind the scenes, though, the damage looks to have been from Calhanoglu’s transfer saga.

Such public rumours – and the fact that Calhanoglu himself seemed to embrace them and push for the move to Galatasaray – did not get a positive reception with some of the midfielder’s teammates.

Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez made plenty of waves with thinly-veiled comments on the matter. He all but personally called Calhanoglu out,

Speaking frankly after Inter’s Club World Cup exit against Fluminense, the Argentine implored “whoever wants to leave, leave.”

Therefore, if Calhanoglu is to stay at Inter as now seems likely, there would be questions of how he will fit back into the squad.

But Inter Vice-President Javier Zanetti was about the “reintegration” of Calhanoglu. He insisted that “the group are doing well.”

“Right now we’re enjoying a well-deserved break after a busy season. Then, we’ll get back to work and focus on having a great season.”

Zanetti insisted that Inter “are always used to being competitive.”
