Roma ace Nicola Zalewski must put pen to paper on a new contract at the Stadio Olimpico before joining Serie A champions Inter. According to Tuttosport via FCInterNews, that’s the only way for the 23-year-old to complete his loan move to Giuseppe Meazza.
Zalewski has less than six months left to run on his current contract at Roma. But he and the club have been at loggerheads since his switch to Galatasaray in September collapsed at the 11th hour. Furthermore, head coach Claudio Ranieri has cast him out of the squad.
One omission after another has convinced Zalewski to pursue other destinations. Inter would offer him an escape route from the capital now that Tajon Buchanan has joined Villarreal on loan until the end of the season.
The Spaniards paid Inter a loan fee of around €1 million. They also have a €13m purchase option. After offloading the Canada international, Simone Inzaghi hopes to address the vacancy by luring Zalewski to Lombardy on a similar deal.
However, that would only be possible if Zalewski agrees to a new contract at Roma. Only then he’d be able to join Inter on loan with an option to buy. Meanwhile, the Giallorossi wouldn’t mind sanctioning the operation, considering it’d allow them to make money on their academy graduate.
Inter and Roma haven’t been on the best of terms this winter. Indeed, Ranieri’s side made a futile effort to sign Davide Frattesi, only to be repeatedly rebuffed by the Nerazzurri.
