Goals on either side of halftime saw Inter beat Lazio in a standout fixture of Serie A Gameweek 11 at San Siro. In doing so, Cristian Chivu’s charges have climbed to the top of the table, drawing level on points with Roma.

Optimism was high before the kick-off as the Nerazzurri won three consecutive games in response to a controversial 3-1 defeat at Napoli. However, their performance in a 2-1 win over Kairat Almaty in midweek Champions League action flattered to deceive, so Inter had a point to prove tonight.

The 20-time Italian champions couldn’t have imagined a better way to kick things off this evening as Lautaro Martinez opened the scoring in the third minute. El Toro struck home a masterful effort from just inside the box, halting his three-game scoring drought in Serie A, while giving Lazio a mountain to climb.

Despite fumbling two more clear-cut chances in the first half, Inter put clear daylight between the sides early in the second half. Federico Dimarco teed up Ange-Yoan Bonny, who tapped the ball into an empty net for his fourth league goal of the season.

Inter also had a goal disallowed at 2-0, but, more importantly, they managed only their third home clean sheet in Serie A this term. Without further ado, let’s look at our player ratings.

Inter (3-5-2)

Yann Sommer – 7/10

Though the Swiss goalkeeper had a field day against a misfiring Lazio side, he still had to pull off a superb stop against Luca Pellegrini to secure Inter’s rare shutout.

Alessandro Bastoni – 7/10

After several shaky performances, the Italian star returned to his usual best, making light work of Gustav Isaksen while showing trademark composure in possession.

Francesco Acerbi – 8/10

Back to the starting XI after back-to-back omissions, the veteran center-back showcased his class, neutralizing Boulaye Dia and dominating his opponents in the air.

Manuel Akanji – 6/10

Though the Manchester City loanee wasn’t at the same level, he rose into the contest after a slow start, which saw him pick up a cynical yellow card for a tactical foul.

Denzel Dumfries – 6/10

It wasn’t a memorable night for the Dutch wingback by any stretch of the imagination. He earned a booking for a reckless tackle and had no impact in the final third.

Nicolo Barella – 6/10

Apart from his signature runs and tireless work rate, the diminutive midfielder again lacked the incisive passes that usually define his game.

Hakan Calhanoglu – 7/10

Though it wasn’t a flashy performance by any means, the Turkish playmaker held up his end of the bargain, distributing the ball with precision and purpose.

Petar Sucic – 5/10

It’s no wonder Chivu took him off early in the first half. The Croatian starlet was on a yellow card for a brutal tackle while constantly looking nervous in possession and offering little creativity.

Federico Dimarco – 8/10

Often slammed for underwhelming form, the Italian ace reminded everyone of exactly who he is with a sublime showing, serving Bonny on a silver platter to help Inter kill the game off.

Lautaro Martinez – 8/10

The Argentine megastar only needed a pocket of space to open the scoring with a stunning strike, though he could’ve doubled his tally shortly after the goal, but misdirected his header.

Ange-Yoan Bonny – 8/10

With Dimarco doing all of the heavy lifting, all he had to do was turn the ball home. However, he was in the right place at the right time, which is a trait of every prolific marksman.
