Speaking to Sport Mediaset via FCInterNews, he also reiterated his ambition to stay at San Siro beyond next summer.

Manuel Akanji joined Inter on loan from Manchester City late in the summer.

Despite arriving at Giuseppe Meazza on deadline day, he has immediately settled into Cristian Chivu’s system.

Indeed, the 30-year-old has wasted no time in cementing his place in the starting lineup.

Akanji has quickly leapfrogged Francesco Acerbi, Stefan de Vrij, and Yann Bisseck in the pecking order.

Given his position on the field, it’s unsurprising he has yet to score his first goal in Serie A.

However, the Swiss center-back is hoping to get off the mark in Sunday’s Derby della Madonnina.

Furthermore, he is keen to sign a permanent contract at San Siro at the end of the season.

“I’m looking forward to it,” Akanji said. “But honestly, I haven’t thought about it much yet because I was focused on the national team.

“We qualified and tonight, we’ll celebrate, then I’ll start thinking about my first Milan derby.”

Asked what it would be like to score on Sunday, he replied: “No, it wouldn’t be bad at all.

“I haven’t scored yet, and I hope to do it soon. It’s not really my job.

“However, it would be nice if I could help the team that way too, and maybe it could even happen this weekend.”

Moreover, Akanji admitted he would like to stay at Inter permanently.

“I hope so,” he added. “We’ll see what happens this season, then the club and I will decide what to do.

“I don’t know, everything depends on how the season goes, but for now I’m very happy in Milan.”

Finally, he praised Cristian Chivu for steering the team in the right direction.

“He’s still young, but I really like the way he approaches the team and the staff, the way he communicates with us.

“I’m really happy with him at the moment.

“Sure, he’s young and still has a lot to learn. But he had a great playing career and I think he can draw from that and from the coaches he’s had.
