Intercontinental Cup: Pyramids Crush Auckland City, Face Saudi Giants Next
Pyramids secured commanding 3 - 0 win over Auckland City at the Air Defense Stadium to advance in the Intercontinental Cup and seal mouth watering second round clash against Al Ahli Saudi on 23 September in Jeddah.
The Sky Blues dominated from the start and struck first in the 14 minute when Moroccan midfielder Walid El Karti finished off smart pass from Brazilian playmaker Everton da Silva.
Substitute Marwan Hamdy doubled the lead midway through the second half (74) before Mostafa Ziko came off the bench to seal the victory in the 85 minute.
Coach Krunoslav jurcic refreshed his attack with timely substitutions. Marwan Hamdy & Abdelrahman Magdy entered on 65 minutes to add firepower while Ramadan Sobhi and Karim Hafez joined late on.
Ziko replacing Ewerton, needed only 2 minute to make his mark with the third goal.
The win earned Pyramids 1 million dollar prize while Auckland City collected $500000. The Egyptians now prepare for high stakes duel with Al Ahli Saudi.
The winner will face Cruz Azul of Mexico or the yet to be confirmed South American champion in the semifinal on 13 December.
Paris Saint Germain as European champions await in the grand final on 17 December in Doha.
Pyramids are chasing continental glory of their own and the chance to challenge PSG on the world stage.
