A piece on Goal.com today has described Chelsea as the “biggest losers of the international break,” and it’s hard to disagree with that assessment.

Coming into the two week break from club action on the back of four damaging defeats in a row which dumped the team out of the Champions League and crushed their chances of making it back into that competition next year through league placement, manager Liam Rosenior was among those saying the pause could be good for everyone as they looked to regroup.

Chelsea cast deeper into despair by two weeks off

Instead, quite the opposite has happened. The piece looks at the quotes from Marc Cucurella and Enzo Fernandez in the last two weeks which have only made the fragile situation worse:

“The March international break should have been a chance for Chelsea to reset and regroup for the final stretch of a testing 2025-26 season. Instead, it has exposed the fragility of the owners’ plan for the club.”

It’s taken things from a bad run of form to questions about the whole project – instead of focusing everyone on the final games of the season, it’s been a massive distraction.
