Ipswich Town are exploring a move for out-of-favour Leeds United striker Joel Piroe, with Championship interest surfacing during a month Leeds are seeking a new centre-forward.
Ipswich Star claims that Piroe features on a two-man shortlist alongside Nashville SC’s Sam Surridge, and that an enquiry was lodged with Leeds earlier this month.
Piroe won last season’s Championship Golden Boot with 19 goals but has barely featured since promotion. He started the first two matches, then made eight further Premier League appearances from the bench. Neither player nor club is believed to be pushing for a January exit, although another striker would push him further down the pecking order.
The forward is understood to want to prove himself in the Premier League. It remains unclear whether any offer would test Leeds’ resolve, while the club remain in talks after tabling a bid for Wolves’ Jorgen Strand Larsen.
Daniel Farke has already seen teenager Harry Gray and winger Jack Harrison depart this month but has stressed he will not force exits. He says he has had no indication anyone wants to leave before Monday’s deadline and values the squad’s spirit and competition for places.
