Mehdi Taremi says that he would “like to stay” at Inter Milan despite rumours that he will leave this summer.

The Iranian international spoke to MehrNews, via FCInterNews. He made clear that he is still under contract with the Nerazzurri, and also proclaimed his love for playing in Italy.

Mehdi Taremi joined Inter Milan last summer. He arrived on a free transfer after his contract with Porto had expired.

However, things have just never quite worked out for Taremi at Inter.

The 32-year-old scored just three goals in his first season in a Nerazzurri shirt. It would be an understatement to say that this was below expectations.

Therefore, there have been persistent rumours that Taremi could be on his way out of the San Siro after just one season.

However, as of yet nothing is certain. And as far as a the player himself is concerned, his intention wouldn’t be to cut his Inter adventure short after just twelve months.

Striker Mehdi Taremi noted that “as much as national media [in Iran] say ‘I’m leaving Inter’], in Italy there’s no news of that sort.”

“I have a contract, and if they’ll allow me, I’d like to stay,” he added.

“Everything is fine, and I’m very happy.”

Meanwhile, Taremi also noted that “Italian football and its vision of players is very similar to how it is in Iran.”

“Older and more experienced players are more appreciated,” said the former Porto striker.

Taremi then declared that “I love Italy.”
