Despite all the domestic struggles, Inter could’ve saved a heart-wrenching campaign in Europe.

Indeed, Simone Inzaghi steered the San Siro outfit to their second Champions League final in three years.

However, after a 1-0 defeat to Manchester City in 2023, no one could’ve thought the Italian giants would fall so low this year.

Unfortunately, it was one of the most one-sided finals in recent Champions League memory.

Luis Enrique’s high-flying side trounced the 20-time Serie A champions 5-0 in the Munich showpiece.

In doing so, they won their first-ever Champions League trophy while extending Inter’s wait for European silverware to 15 years.

Meanwhile, Mehdi Taremi, who had a disappointing first season at Inter, didn’t get a chance in the title-deciding fixture.

Inzaghi left him on the bench, but it’s hard to think his inclusion would’ve changed anything.

“It’s hard to find the right words,” Taremi wrote. “We’re hurting, because we know how much you believed in us.

“We wanted to give you that trophy, that moment, that joy. You deserved it.

“It hurts that we couldn’t make that happen, but we’re grateful for your love and support through it all. We don’t take it for granted.

“We’ll keep working, keep growing, and next season, we’ll come back stronger, with your support in our hearts.

“All for you, our amazing fans. Forza Inter.”

Taremi’s future at San Siro hangs in the balance as Inter aim to sign two new strikers this summer.

Indeed, Jonathan David and Rasmus Hojlund sit atop the club’s shortlist.
