Newcastle United take on FC Barcelona in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie this evening, with Eddie Howe’s side hoping to take a potentially vital result into next week’s second leg at the Camp Nou.
The Magpies looked rejuvenated in their impressive win over Manchester United last week but they were only able to follow it with a lacklustre performance against Manchester City in the FA Cup, with a 3-1 loss there meaning that Europe is now their only chance of a trophy this season.
And they welcome an exciting Barcelona side to St James’ this week, with a Blaugrana side led by mercurial talent Lamine Yamal sitting top of La Liga after four wins on the bounce.
Plenty of eyes will be on the likes of Yamal his talented teammates tonight, but while the Spanish giants are a tough proposition for the Magpies – as the hosts found out in their 2-1 home loss earlier this season – recent losses to Girona and Atletico will give Howe his side plenty of hope ahead of this tie.
The match is scheduled to kick-off at 8pm GMT on Tuesday, 10 March at St James’ Park in Newcastle, England.
Viewers in the UK can watch the match live on Amazon Prime Video, with coverage starting at 6.55pm.
For Newcastle, Jacob Ramsey can make a return after his domestic suspension for the red card against Man Utd, while Anthony Gordon, Joelinton and Jacob Murphy will have to be assessed after latter missed the game against City and the other duo only came on as subs.
This game will come too soon for Lewis Miley, Fabian Schar and Bruno Guimaraes, while Emil Krafth is the only long-term absentee.
For the visitors, Marc Bernal will be a doubt after coming off at the weekend due to illness, while Alejandro Balde, Gavi, Frenkie de Jong, Jules Kounde and Andreas Christensen are all sidelined.
