The transfer window has always been fertile ground for rumour, but sometimes it is what you do not see that speaks the loudest. At Newcastle United, the absence of Alexander Isak from the club’s new away kit launch has sparked fresh speculation about the striker’s future. For Liverpool, on the hunt for a forward capable of elevating Arne Slot’s Premier League-winning squad, this is a hint that cannot be ignored.
Isak, Newcastle’s leading attacking threat and arguably their most valuable player, has been at the centre of growing uncertainty all summer. Speaking on Tuesday, manager Eddie Howe admitted that the situation is no longer entirely in his hands. “Not in my full control,” Howe said of Isak’s future, a candid admission that left little doubt over how delicately poised things are behind the scenes at St James’ Park.

The Swede was left out of the Magpies’ pre-season tour of Asia, with the club citing a minor thigh injury. However, journalist David Ornstein reported last week that the decision to remain behind was not purely medical. Instead, Isak “chose to stay behind and assess his options,” raising further questions about his commitment to the club as the transfer window heats up.
The strongest indication yet that Isak may be edging toward the exit came not on the pitch, but on Newcastle’s official social media feeds. Tuesday’s unveiling of the club’s new green away strip featured captain Bruno Guimaraes, Jacob Murphy, Dan Burn and Sandro Tonali. The club’s most dangerous attacker was nowhere to be seen.
That in itself might have passed quietly had it not been for what Chronicle Live reported: Isak had in fact taken part in the promotional shoots. “The Swedish striker posed for photographs and videos alongside his team-mates,” they stated, confirming his absence from Tuesday’s material was a conscious decision, not an availability issue.

Given that Newcastle’s third kit launch earlier in the summer prominently featured Isak alongside Anthony Gordon and Guimaraes, the omission from the away kit content is a glaring shift. With the Magpies set to wear the green kit for the first time against a K-League XI in South Korea, Isak’s image should have been central. That he was excluded from final promotional material only intensifies speculation over his next move.
Liverpool are watching developments with interest. Having stormed to the Premier League title under Arne Slot last season, the Reds are eager to reinforce. Isak’s profile fits. At 25, he combines age with experience, poise with pace, and composure in front of goal. With Darwin Núñez still under scrutiny and Cody Gakpo’s role not clearly defined, Liverpool are expected to explore options for additional firepower.
Should Newcastle decide to cash in to meet financial targets or reinvest in depth, Liverpool’s pulling power and Champions League football could appeal to the Swede. Isak’s omission from Newcastle’s visual branding does not confirm his departure, but it quietly suggests that all parties are preparing for change.
In modern football, transfer stories are often told in whispers, not statements. The absence of Alexander Isak from Tuesday’s kit launch may be one of the louder whispers of the summer.
