The November international break has seen the latest episode in the ongoing tension between the Royal Spanish Football Federation and FC Barcelona.

This time, controversy arose after the Blaugrana club conducted an invasive radiofrequency procedure on Lamine Yamal, prompting the RFEF to claim that it had not been adequately informed in advance. As a result of the procedure, Yamal was withdrawn from the national team camp yesterday.

The Federation also issued an official statement expressing surprise and displeasure over the situation. In response, Barcelona president Joan Laporta clarified the club’s position during an interview on the program El Matí on Catalunya Ràdio (via Mundo Deportivo).

Laporta explained how the situation unfolded. He said, “We informed them as soon as we received the response from the doctor who examined him. Our doctors communicated it to the Federation’s doctors, and that’s how it went.”

“We don’t want controversies. On Monday, the specialist came, made the diagnosis, and determined the treatment—that’s how it went. Barça wants to have him in the best possible condition and available; it happened this way, and it coincided with the national team’s match, but the national team already has it well in hand.”

He also addressed concerns about the young winger’s personal life, emphasizing his maturity and professionalism:

“I’m not worried at all. He’s a player who needs to be protected and helped, but he is much more mature than any kid his age. Now he has a problem with pubalgia, and it takes a lot of merit that he’s still playing. That shows his commitment. As a footballer, he’s a genius, and we have to protect him and help him improve day by day because he hasn’t yet reached his maximum potential. He’s the best in the world in his position.”

There is no doubt that this problem could have been handled better by the involved sides, but for now, the most important thing is Lamine Yamal’s fitness, and hopefully, he will be able to get back to his best level after the latest treatment undertaken on him by FC Barcelona.
