The 2025–26 season has yet to end, and FC Barcelona are yet to secure the La Liga title, even though they are nine points ahead of second-placed Real Madrid and are almost certain to win back-to-back domestic leagues under Hansi Flick.

However, some Blaugrana players have already started receiving recognition for their performances. This is particularly the case for the young winger Lamine Yamal, as Mundo Deportivo reports that he was handed the World’s Young Athlete of the Year at the Laureus Awards in Madrid on Monday.

While receiving the award, the Barcelona winger made the following statement:

“I am very happy to receive this award. It is an honour. I want to thank the Academy, my family, my mother, who is at home with my brother, my father, my grandmother, my teammates, the team that always supports me… I also want to congratulate Carlos (Alcaraz). I am very happy. I hope this helps me to keep going like this. I still have a long way to go. Have a good afternoon, and thank you very much.”

Carlos Alcaraz won the Sportsman of the Year award at this gala, while former Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos was handed the Laureus Inspirational Sports award.

Hopefully, this recognition will only spur Lamine Yamal to perform even better in the remaining few matches of the season for Barcelona and for Spain in the upcoming World Cup.
