The Blues travel to The Joie Stadium to take on The Cityzens in the Subway Women’s League Cup semi-finals.
When speaking to the media ahead of the match, Chelsea boss Bompastor said that the fixture represents a big game and that her side will be aiming to perform at their absolute best.
“When you are Chelsea and you are holders in the competition, you know what to expect from other teams and you know that everyone is extra-motivated to perform against us,” Bompastor said. “Right now, City are really performing well and I think it will be a big game. It’s really exciting to face a team in good form.
“Rather than focusing on being the holders, we see the game on Wednesday as a big game and it’s an opportunity for us to perform at our best level.”
Manchester City are unbeaten since falling to a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea on the opening day of the season. Bompastor has seen plenty of improvement in the attacking third from The Cityzens this season.
She said “Andrée [Jeglertz] has been able to keep the same philosophy in terms of a team that wants to possess the ball but they are more vertical and efficient in the final third. The way that they are performing and scoring goals is probably the biggest difference from last season.
“I’d say that them having one game a week helps a lot in terms of having players fit and available to perform every week and to able to come into every game at their best.
“They have been very good and we know that we are going to face a big challenge.”
Chelsea meet Manchester City in both league and cup in the space of 11 days, either side of a fixture against Arsenal. Bompastor believes that there’s enough quality in the squad to compete in those three big games.
She said “It’s important to keep everyone fit and available to play the big games but when you’re at Chelsea, the schedule is busy and you play many games. Unfortunately, sometimes we get some injuries. It’s important for me to trust the players who are available and also make the most of them.
“We have enough quality with the squad that’s available now to perform in the next three games.”
Chelsea’s Subway Women’s League Cup tie at Manchester City kicks-off at 7pm on Wednesday evening.
