Italian journalist Paolo Condo believes Inter Milan could have undergone a major transformation had Cesc Fabregas joined the club.

Interviewed by Sky Sport via FCInterNews, Condo offered his verdict on the recent managerial change at San Siro.

Long-serving coach Simone Inzaghi left the club immediately after the end of last season.

Indeed, the 49-year-old chose the riches of Saudi Arabia at the expense of elite football in Europe, joining Al-Hilal on a multi-year contract.

Meanwhile, Inzaghi’s departure came out of the blue, handing Inter little time to react.

For context, the Italian tactician moved to Riyadh only weeks before the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

Therefore, Beppe Marotta had to work around the clock to find a suitable replacement.

Although Cesc Fabregas emerged as Inter’s top target, the Nerazzurri couldn’t convince the Spaniard to leave Como.

Therefore, they turned to Cristian Chivu instead, handing the former defender an unexpected chance to return to the club.

However, Condo believes Fabregas would’ve been a better option. Still, he keeps Chivu in high regard.

“There would have been a revolution if Fabregas had joined Inter,” Condo said. “Chivu will certainly do very well and has my full respect.

“However, it’s a tentative judgment since we’ve seen too little to fully assess him.

“But we’ve seen enough of Fabregas to understand that, had he gone to Inter, the team would look very different from last year and could have potentially become a frontrunner in Italian football again.”

Then, he took stock of what shapes up to be an intense Scudetto race.

“Napoli are the favorites, but they won’t be dominant,” Condo continued. “They won at home against Cagliari and Pisa but struggled.

“Against compact teams, I’m seeing little from De Bruyne,” he added. “I also see Inter, Milan, and Juventus competing for the title.

“There are four main contenders, and if I’m keeping an open mind, I’d add Roma.
