  • Haaland reminds Man City teammates that they only need to win and not think too much

Manchester City forward Erling Haaland has reminded his teammates that they need only win and not worry about much else in their Premier League run-in.

The 25-year-old was on target in a 1-0 win for Manchester City over Burnley on Wednesday night as the Blues pipped Arsenal to go top of the Premier League table for the first time since August 2025.

Haaland has started to rediscover his usual self in front of goal in recent weeks, having scored five times in Manchester City’s last four wins over Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Burnley.

Match Report & Player Ratings: Burnley 0-1 Manchester City (Premier League)

City lead Arsenal at the summit of the English top-flight on goal difference, a metric that could make all the difference in deciding the destination of the Premier League trophy come the end of May.

Haaland: Just try to win, don’t think

In a no-nonsense, minimalistic message to his Manchester City teammates, Haaland has said that the Blues should only try to win and not overthink about goal difference in their final five Premier League games of the season.

“We had a lot of chances,” the Norway international said in a post-match interview with Sky Sports on Wednesday night. “But I’m happy we won, and that’s the most important thing.

“Anything else, don’t think, just try to win. It’s all about winning, no matter how. We tried to play our football and just tried to win. That’s what you have in your mindset. And now, focus on Saturday.

“Don’t think about (scoring) the goals, think about winning, as I’ve said now three times. It’s been good so far (this month), so keep going, keep going, try to win now on Saturday, and then Everton.

“One-nil is amazing, I’m super happy, I don’t know why you keep on asking me that (about not scoring more than one goal). I’m super happy, we won, we got three points, and as they sing, we are top of the league! So be happy.”

“My face speaks for himself” – Pep Guardiola says he is ‘more relaxed than ever’ amid Arsenal title race battle

What’s next for Haaland and Man City?

Manchester City turn their attention to the FA Cup this weekend as they prepare to take on Southampton in the semi-final at Wembley amid their quest for a domestic treble – with Chelsea and Leeds United facing off in the other semi-final.

The Blues will be keeping a close eye on developments in north London before their next Premier League game away at Everton, with the Gunners facing Newcastle United and Fulham at home before City travel to the Hill Dickinson Stadium next week.

Guardiola has maintained that Manchester City will effectively lose the title if they slip up at any stage between now and the end of the season, underlining the margins between success and failure that could decide the title race.
