Fabrizio Romano shares positive Kobbie Mainoo with Manchester United fans, but he doesn’t agree with Ruben Amorim’s treatment of the player.

The 20-year-old was a key figure in Erik ten Hag’s side, but lost his regular starting berth following the arrival of the Portuguese manager who struggled to find him a place in his 3-4-2-1 system, despite trying him in various roles.

This season, the England international was an unused substitute in the first two Premier League fixtures of the season against Arsenal and Fulham. Amorim explained that Mainoo is vying for a starting berth against his captain, Bruno Fernandes.

Needless to say, the midfielder wasn’t happy with his status at the club. Therefore, Mainoo requested a loan move which would allow him to gain valuable playing time and cement a place in the England squad ahead of the World Cup, before returning to Carrington next season.

However, Man Utd refused to grant the player this wish, insisting on keeping him at the club.

As explained in his most recent deadline-day video update on YouTube, Fabrizio Romano reveals that United’s midfield squad will remain intact, and this includes Mainoo.

Mainoo has ‘no chance’ of leaving Man United

The Italian journalist reveals that injuries suffered by Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount solidified MUFC’s stance. The management has been hellbent on keeping the youngster, as they feel they can’t afford to lose another player.

Nevertheless, Romano aimed a dig at Amorim, albeit without naming him, as he struggles to understand how ‘one of the club’s best players’ hasn’t been able to find playing time. The transfer market insider describes the situation as ‘crazy’, while hailing Mainoo as a ‘fantastic’ guy.

Hence, it remains to be seen if the Man Utd academy product will be able to find more space after the international break. With Cunha and Mount out, Bruno will likely be deployed as an attacking midfielder, so there should be room for Mainoo in the double pivot, unless Amorim opts to start Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte.
