Manchester City’s charity, City in the Community (CITC), is welcoming applicants for the 2026/2027 Esports cohort.
In partnership with Oldham College, the programme provides an opportunity for students who are passionate about both esports and education to combine the two as part of the course.
The fully inclusive curriculum provides students with the chance to develop technical skills and gain insights into the industry.
With support from Manchester City, students are given exclusive opportunities to connect with professionals in the esports world, opening the door to industry connections.
Over the duration of the course, students can gain qualifications including:
• Level 2 Certification in Esports (Full Time/1 Year) • Level 3 Extended Diploma in Esports (Full Time/ 2 Years) – Equivalent to 3 A Levels.
One esport student, Ronnie, said: “The course has allowed me to transition from playing, to coaching, which I have really enjoyed.
“Mentoring the team has increased my confidence and it’s been really rewarding to see the team improve.”
Another student added: “I joined the course because I had a passion for gaming. I’ve enjoyed learning about marketing and streaming within the industry.
“It has helped with my communication skills as I find it hard with my disability, but this course has helped me a lot.”
Esports Education Officer, Oliver Gilbert, said: “The programme is an excellent way for students to combine students’ passion for gaming with educational content, helping them develop transferable skills for the future.
“It also provides a safe space for students to express themselves and build confidence among their peers who share their interests.”
During the 2024/2025 season, the programme helped learners gain 20 qualifications, supporting them in taking the next step in their careers.
Sitting under CITC’s Healthy Futures pillar, the programme aims to build healthy futures through education and employability pathways.
The education programmes encourage and inspire young people by providing qualifications and skills required to progress into further education, employment and training.
