"It’s just extremely unlucky" - Post-match reaction to #FCSPRBL

RB Leipzig were held to a 1-1 draw at FC St. Pauli after conceding a late penalty in injury time.

The late penalty:“It’s just extremely unlucky for us. It’s clear to see that David didn’t do it on purpose – he slipped and lost his footing. But, we have to be honest with ourselves and admit that it is a clear penalty at the end of the day.”
The game itself:“We managed to find our way into their penalty box on a number of occasions in the first half, but we didn’t really pose a threat. At the same time, we allowed them far too many chances. We then had more control over the game in the second half and managed to score. However, we didn’t manage to keep the ball in their half. Instead, we allowed them to make their way into our area relatively easily – it’s frustrating.”
The overall performance of the team:“It definitely wasn’t our best game. At the moment, we’re not able to put in 90 minutes of playing to the best of our abilities, which is something we need to address.”
The current state of the table:“It’s extremely close at the top. The important thing is that we keep at it and take something from our upcoming games. We’re in the top, but we have to continue to consistently picking up points.”

The game:“We knew that it would be intense. It wasn’t all perfect, but the game was going our way. After about an hour, St. Pauli started to tire. Yan’s goal then should have marked the deciding moment. To miss out on three points at the very end like that is frustrating. It would have felt good to grind out a win like that.”
The late penalty:“Things like that happen sometimes in football. David’s not to blame at all, he slipped and took out his opponent’s feet as a result. We just have to accept it and go and get the three points against Mainz.”

The late penalty:“I slipped and took him out as a result. Even I have to admit that that’s a penalty.”
The game itself:“We allowed them too many chances. St. Pauli were very compact at the back and we weren’t able to circulate the ball well. Not everything went the way we’d hoped. The second half was an improvement, but it wasn’t our best performance.”

The game:“Overall, it wasn’t an undeserved draw. We made too many errors in the first half and were playing too slowly. We then improved in the second half and were able to take the lead in what was a close game, where we knew we wouldn’t get many chances. We have to be capable of seeing a lead like that through, or of finishing our chances in transition in order to decide a game.”
The late penalty: “It’s an unlucky situation, because Raumi slips. However, there’s no denying that it’s a penalty. We’re not happy with the result. When you’re 1-0 up until the 93rd minute, then you have to be the one to take home all three points. We’ll now try and do just that against Mainz.”
