Pundits Joe Cole and Owen Hargreaves have come to an agreement on what Chelsea must do to improve going forward.

Chelsea’s transfer window wasn’t great. They were busy and they did make some good signings. The best thing they did was a good amount of fantastic outgoing deals. But they still failed to sign in at the back and that is one thing they may well end up regretting.

EXCLUSIVE! Chelsea add new centre back name to list of targets and could move on him in January!!

Former Chelsea winger Pat Nevin has put his attention on Chelsea’s left hand side as their main weakness last night in the 3-1 defeat to Bayern Munich.

Their first goal came from that side of the pitch as well, and it was their danger man who Nevin speaks about, Michael Olise, who got the cross that forced the own goal by Trevoh Chalobah.

The other two goals were self-inflicted as well by Chelsea mistakes and not looking too strong at the back. So why haven’t they improved that area over the summer?

Cole and Hargreaves have no idea why not

Joe Cole gesticulates on TNT Sport.

“If I think back to those Chelsea teams that won everything, they had Petr Cech, Carvalho, John Terry, that’s the basis of any team,” Owen Hargreaves told TNT Sports.

“It’s not a criticism, it’s just a fact and I thought the two young centre-backs did okay but we’re talking about [Luis] Diaz, [Michael] Olise and Kane, some of the top performers, it was a big ask for them but mistakes cost them more than anything.

“But I do think if they can address that centre-back position, even though they’ve got [Wesley] Fofana and [Levi] Colwill, two fabulous players, I think they need a little bit more experience as one of those players.

Former Chelsea star Joe Cole added:

“I go back to it and I’ve been banging the drum for it, if you had a senior central defender in that group.”

Hargreaves replied:

“Marc Guehi, I know he was a Chelsea academy boy but somebody like that, super reliable, you can just pop him in, mentor the young boys.”
