Tottenham comfortably won 3-0 yesterday against Elfsborg in the Europa League with three academy graduates getting the goals, but there was still unrest amongst the fans aimed mainly at chairman Daniel Levy.

For weeks now Spurs fans have chanted ‘Levy out’, during wins and losses alike, and with a deal for Spurs’ only concrete target this window, Mathys Tel, falling through, that anger will only be growing.

Ange Postecoglou was asked for his thoughts on the chants, to which he said: “When you’re trying to build something successful you need to be united in that. I’ve probably failed in trying to unify the club in that way. Part of that is just the form in the league, which allows people to go away from the here and now.

“I thought the crowd was good last night. They understood we had a young squad out there and they got genuinely excited towards the end of the game seeing the young boys.

“That’s what we’re trying to tap into because we’re going to need the support in the last phase of the season to hopefully create something special. But I can’t sit here and dictate what people should or shouldn’t do.”

Tottenham fans are angry with Levy because they feel he has not appropriately backed Postecoglou. Spurs’ injury woes have been apparent for months. Dominic Solanke, Cristian Romero, Vicario, Brennan Johnson, Destiny Udogie, Wilson Odobert, Timo Werner and James Maddison are all out, and the team have been relying on youngsters.

Yet the club has only brought in goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky during the January transfer window. To compound the injuries, Tottenham’s league form is not helpful either.

They have lost six out of their last seven league games and are 15th in the Premier League.

Spurs play Brentford on Sunday in what has become an almost must-win game. Every league loss piles immense pressure on Postecoglou and increasingly sours the mood in the fanbase.
