The 25-year-old has established himself as a key player at Chelsea and was part of the side which won the Conference League and Club World Cup last season.

Enzo Fernandez on “inspiration” Frank Lampard

Fernandez had a brilliant 2024/2025 season in which he scored nine goals and registered 17 assists in 53 appearances in all competitions.

The World Cup winner is in equally as impressive form this season, and has scored 11 goals and registered four assists in 36 appearances.

Liam Rosenior has praised Fernandez on multiple occasions, and his goals from midfield have been vital so far this season.

Lampard was arguably the best in Premier League history at scoring goals from midfield, and Fernandez has said he’s an inspiration to him.

“He’s an inspiration,” he told Sky Sports.

“I’ve watched a lot of videos of Frank since coming to Chelsea. I’ve seen how he got into those last metres of the pitch and how he got into the box.

“He was an exceptional player and a legend here for Chelsea.

“I don’t like to be compared to him, because he has achieved a lot more here than I have. He’s an idol. I hope to follow in his footsteps at Chelsea.”

World Cup winner looking for improved contract

Fernandez has multiple years left to run on his current deal, and he’s reportedly attracted interest from the likes of Real Madrid and PSG.

However, it’s believed Fernandez is looking for an improved contract at Chelsea, and it’s thought the agency which represents him have made that clear to Chelsea.

The Argentine is an integral part of the Chelsea project, and has delivered in some key moments, but if the Blues want to keep him around they’ll need Champions League football at a bare minimum.
