Luton Town have been told that they need to have more 'belief' by their head coach Jack Wilshere as they prepare to face Wigan Athletic this evening.
Jack Wilshere has told his Luton Town team that they must believe in themselves more in the battle for the play-offs in League One, as his side prepare for a trip to Greater Manchester this evening to face Wigan Athletic.
The Hatters were beaten 3-1 by league leaders Cardiff City on Saturday afternoon, a result that saw the Bedfordshire outfit slip down to ninth in the league table and they are four points off the top six positions right now. However, they do have two games in hand over Huddersfield Town, who are in sixth.
This is a vital game for Luton, with Wigan struggling at the bottom of the table. Gary Caldwell has just taken charge of the Latics after departing Exeter City, and with a new face in the dugout, he will be hoping to spring a surprise on the away side.
Nevertheless, Wilshere has made it clear to his players to take control of the game and show to the rest of League One that Luton are a side with more than enough quality to finish in the play-off places.
The Hatters are looking to avoid their sixth successive away defeat, and they know that without consistent away form, their chances of finishing in the top six will be severely diminished.

Now, Wilshere has told his players to have more belief in themselves as they prepare for yet another game on the road. He said (via: BBC Three Counties Radio): "We have to have more belief, and courage, which shows up in different ways. Clearly there's an issue away from home which I have to find the answer to. We have to look within ourselves, within the dressing room.
"Away from home we have to cut out those moments where we don't recognise the importance of keeping the ball, and when you do regain it - having a spell, especially against teams like [Cardiff], to take the sting out of the game, to kill their momentum. We've done that a lot to teams this season, but away from home we can't seem to do it at the moment."
Wilshere continued: "As a player I never felt that, and I want the team to believe that wherever we're going to go, we're trying to win a game and we can win a game. We try to set the team in that way to do so. I hope it's not, but maybe it is."
Both Cardiff and Lincoln City have proven this season how vital away form is, with both sides having excellent records on the road, while also being extremely strong at home.
However, Luton have found life tough away from Kenilworth Road. They have won just four of their 15 away league games in 2025/26, drawing only twice and losing the other nine.

It is vital that this run does not continue against Wigan, a team who have picked up just 18 points on their own patch throughout the campaign.
