Jackson Irvine admitted St. Pauli fell short at Heidenheim at the weekend, yet said belief in staying up remains intact.
According to BuLi News, the Kiezkicker were beaten 2-0 by bottom-placed 1. FC Heidenheim. With three games left, they sit 16th, five points behind 15th-placed local rivals Hamburger SV and one above 17th-placed Wolfsburg.
The captain called it a missed chance, saying they were too passive, failed to put tackles in and that wrong decisions decided the match in a league that rolls you over if you are not at your peak.
He urged focus on the run-in and the nine points available, stressing the need to pull together and take responsibility for what they can control as a group. He added the side know it can be done, citing strong home displays even when results have not always followed.
St. Pauli finish against Mainz, RB Leipzig and Wolfsburg. Irvine has been with the club since 2021, making 150 appearances, and is an Australia international with 80 caps.
