Jamie Vardy is battling to be fit for Cremonese’s season finale this weekend, a game that will shape their Serie A survival bid.

LeicesterMercury.co.uk reports that he is struggling with a thigh issue ahead of Sunday’s home meeting with Champions League hopefuls Como. The 39-year-old has struck in each of his last two outings, taking him to seven for the season.

He trained only sparingly last week because of the problem, yet still scored the decisive goal against Udinese. There is optimism he could make one more appearance.

Lecce’s stoppage-time winner over Sassuolo keeps Cremonese in the bottom three going into the final round, one point behind. Lecce host 14th-placed Genoa.

Cremonese will stay up if they win and Lecce fail to take three points. A draw coupled with a Lecce defeat would force a play-off between the two to settle relegation.

A play-off could affect Vardy’s attendance at City’s 5,000-1 anniversary match on Saturday, May 30. If Cremonese clinch safety this weekend, his deal renews for a second year upon survival, which would likely prevent him from featuring in any other match, even for charity.
