A Leicester City supporter reached out to Jamie Vardy at a Cremonese game to ask him about the problems at the King Power Stadium.

For Leicester City supporters, history is seemingly repeating itself as Marti Cifuentes became the latest Foxes head coach to lose his job following a 2-1 defeat to Oxford United on Saturday.

The Spaniard took over the East Midlands outfit in the summer, but with a host of financial issues at the King Power Stadium, the former QPR boss was unable to splash out on transfers, and alongside crisis club Sheffield Wednesday, they did not spend a penny on permanent transfer fees.

Nevertheless, this has been an extremely difficult campaign for the Foxes, with their latest defeat leaving them 14th in the Championship table - just nine points above the relegation zone.

With a points deduction anticipated, the nightmare of relegation to League One could yet become a reality as faint promotion dreams continue to slip away, and blame from fans has ultimately been left at the top with director of football, Jon Rudkin.

Now, Leicester legend Jamie Vardy has responded to a question posed by a fan about Rudkin's role at the club.

Vardy departed the Foxes at the end of the 2024/25 campaign, bringing a 13-year association with the club to an end, as he joined Italian outfit Cremonese, where he has scored five goals in 18 Serie A games.

The 39-year-old will forever be associated with Leicester, and after scoring 200 goals in 500 games for the 2016 Premier League champions, it will not come as a surprise to see fans of the Foxes venture out to Italy to watch their hero at his new team.

Following Cremonese's home game against Verona, one of those supporters asked Vardy: "So, Rudkin's the problem?"

The striker was rather coy in his reply, telling those meeting him: "I can neither confirm nor deny."

Of course, though, Leicester supporters will believe that Vardy's denial is telling in of itself, with the ex-England international perhaps echoing feelings around the Foxes fanbase.

Leicester City must get their next appointment right after two years of failure

Enzo Maresca's football was not always pretty during the 2023/24 Championship campaign, but consistency was key for Leicester as they ran out as the league winners, returning to the top flight at the first time of asking. However, he left for Chelsea ahead of the next season, with Steve Cooper replacing him.

It was an appointment that was doomed to fail from the start, as Cooper had strong links to East Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest, and he lasted just 15 games before he was sacked. Ruud Van Nistelrooy followed, and so did another relegation.

The former Manchester United striker was unable to keep Leicester in the Premier League, and a messy end saw the Dutchman relieved of his duties just days before the players returned for pre-season, with Cifuentes taking charge.

Nevertheless, he was not backed by those at the top, and ultimately, as director of football, these problems do lie with Rudkin, and he has a responsibility to take the club forward and change their fortunes. Yet, with Vardy's own perception of Rudkin seemingly matching those of supporters, there is huge pressure on this next appointment to be his very best.
