Jan Bednarek has not suffered a rib fracture, though the Porto centre-back remains a doubt to face Benfica, according to O Jogo.
He left the Alvalade pitch and went straight to the dressing room, suffering nausea and difficulty breathing. That discomfort was still leaving him badly affected yesterday.
Early assessments appeared to rule out a fissure or more serious break, and more detailed tests have now confirmed that. The focus now is a race against time to be involved.
Any decision will depend on the Poland international’s tolerance to pain and his confidence in going into contact and competing in all types of duels. That is especially important for a centre-back of his profile before a contest expected to be tight and demanding.
He is intent on doing everything he can to help the team in their final league clássico of the season. The game at the Luz is on Sunday, and each day will be decisive in assessing the trauma’s evolution and Bednarek’s response.
