Former Chelsea player Jason Cundy has urged the Blues to go back in for AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan in January.
Chelsea once again had a busy summer in which they heavily invested in the squad, and made six first team signings.
The Blues made five attacking signings as they totally revamped their frontline, whilst Jorrel Hato was signed as back-up to Marc Cucurella to plug a crucial gap in the squad.
Despite making some good signings, there was once again a feeling that Chelsea had left themselves with a lack of quality in key positions.
Chelsea supporters would loved to have seen a new goalkeeper signed, and it appears they are already paying the price for that.

Robert Sanchez got sent off against Manchester United, whilst Filip Jorgensen hasn’t looked impressive and struggled against Lincoln.
Chelsea had the opportunity to sign Maignan in the summer, but weren’t prepared to get near AC Milan’s valuation, and Cundy believes they should go back in for the Frenchman in January.
“January is coming, he will walk on a free,” he told talkSPORT.
“I wonder whether they’ve decided we will get ourselves through until January and then go back in again and see whether we can take him in January.
“If we are after him in August, why wouldn’t we be after him in January?
“I think they felt a little bit put out with one of the deals that went the other way a couple of years ago.”
It’s been reported the reason Chelsea didn’t sign Gianluigi Donnarumma is because they believe they can still sign Maignan.

There’s also the equation of Mike Penders, with the Blues said to view the Belgian youngster as “special,” and he’s currently impressing on loan at Strasbourg.
The Athletic have reported Chelsea are unlikely to pursue a keeper in January as they don’t want to block the pathway for Penders, and it will be interesting to see what decisions are made.
