Pedro marked his 100th Flamengo goal at the Maracanã in a 2-0 win over Cruzeiro, underscoring Jardim’s bid to revive him. According to Globo.com, the coach has made restoring the number nine a priority. The milestone, plus 11 he scored there for Fluminense, places him fifth on the stadium’s scorers list.
At four minutes he punished a Villarreal error, beat three in the box and finished. One minute later he dispossessed Villalba and fed Arrascaeta, who rounded Cássio and shot, but Fabrício Bruno prevented the goal. Carrascal struck in the final minute.
Jardim said talks with him were simple, stressing work with and without the ball, plus positioning, pressing and collaboration. He added he was not surprised, believing from the outset Pedro could couple attacking output with defensive duties.
Under Filipe Luís he was not an automatic starter, but with Jardim that chance is greater. The Portuguese favours specialists and Pedro is the squad’s only natural centre-forward, though Bruno Henrique and Wallace Yan are alternatives. Despite injuries in 2025 he delivered 15 in 39 and can play with Arrascaeta.
Jardim is speaking with the board about another centre-forward. Flamengo missed out in the first international window, which closed on three March, due to budget limits after Lucas Paquetá and a preference for established profiles.
The search could now shift, with scouting set to propose options for his approval. The club are also assessing the domestic market, where rules allow deals for state championship players until 27 March.
