The Hammers were in a close battle with rivals Tottenham Hotspur for the final place inside the bottom three, but were unable to overcome Roberto de Zerbi’s side and fell to relegation on the final day despite seeing off Leeds United with an eye-catching 3-0 victory at the London Stadium.

The London outfit haven’t been in the second tier since 2012, when Sam Allardyce led the club to promotion at the first time of asking through the play-offs.

West Ham will be looking to repeat that success again in 2027, but first they must navigate what could be quite a tricky transfer window.

The likes of Mateus Fernandes and Jarrod Bowen have been linked with moves away from the club, with several Hammers players subjected to intense speculation surrounding their futures in East London as the club look to raise funds following relegation.

Here we use estimated figures from Capology to compare Bowen and Fernandes' current salaries amid uncertainty over their futures…

It has been reported that West Ham’s players are in line for a 50 per cent pay cut as a consequence of their relegation to the Championship.

However, Bowen is not expected to suffer that same fate, as it’s understood that he will maintain his salary despite the team’s 18th place finish.

The 29-year-old is already the club’s highest paid player after signing an extension in 2023 that keeps him at the London Stadium until June 2030.

He played an integral role in the Hammer’s UEFA Conference League triumph under David Moyes, scoring the 90th minute winner in the 2-1 win against Fiorentina in the final.

This has earned him an estimated salary worth £150,000 per week, which exceeds the £120,000-a-week earned by Alphonse Areola last season.

But the goalkeeper will go down to £60,000 per week, further increasing the gap between the two best paid players in Nuno Espírito Santo’s squad.

Meanwhile, Fernandes joined West Ham just 12 months ago from Southampton after the Saints suffered a relegation of their own.

The Portuguese currently receives £60,000-a-week, but that salary is set to be halved to £30,000 per week from next season.

Bowen has a contract with West Ham until 2030, giving West Ham plenty of leverage in any potential transfer talks this summer.

It has been reported that new majority shareholder Daniel Křetínský is increasingly confident that the 29-year-old will stay at the London Stadium despite the club’s relegation.

Bowen has cemented himself as a modern club legend, and that status will only grow if he does remain and helps the team earn promotion back to the Premier League.

However, Fernandes’ future is far more up in the air after he impressed for Espírito Santo’s side in the Premier League.

It has been claimed that West Ham have set an £80 million asking price for the midfielder amid interest from a number of clubs.

Manchester United have most prominently been linked with the 21-year-old, but it’s been claimed that they will not meet that £80 million figure.

Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur have also been mentioned as potential destinations, making an exit from the London outfit an increasingly likely outcome this summer.
