Mexico delivered a stunning result in its first match of the April FIFA window, thrashing the U.S. Virgin Islands 9-0 at the Estadio Carlos Vega Villalba in Zacatecas. With this victory, the national team moved to the top of Group A in the Concacaf qualifiers for Brazil 2027, with 9 points and a +30 goal difference.
The national team’s performance included representation from Chivas, as Jasmine Casarez came on at halftime, looking to provide attacking spark down the right flank. ‘Jas’ proved to be an important option on that side, creating width and taking on defenders. Meanwhile, Blanca Félix remained on the bench.
Next, the Mexican National Team will face its closest group rival: Puerto Rico. The match against the Caribbean side will take place on Saturday, April 18 at 6 PM at the Estadio Nemesio Diez.
