Former Albion striker Jason Roberts has been appointed to the club’s board as a non-executive director, joining chairman and owner Shilen Patel, chief financial officer Ethan Gobetz and executive director Mark Miles.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the 48-year-old’s role is not day to day. He will work on club strategy while continuing in his full-time post as Concacaf’s director of development, maintain boardroom roles with Concacaf and the Global Institute of Sport, and continue close work on the United Nations’ Football for Goals initiative.

Roberts spent three and a half years with Albion from the summer of 2000, arriving as a £2 million club-record signing from Bristol Rovers before moving to Wigan in January 2004. He scored 27 goals in 101 appearances and is the nephew of the late club great Cyrille Regis.

He said he was delighted to join the board of a club central to his family’s history. Roberts described this as an important moment and said he is honoured to help shape its strategic direction. He added that he has gained significant board-level experience since retiring and now wants to apply it in support of Albion.

His relationship with Patel dates back to the owner’s 2024 takeover, when Roberts was living in Miami. Now based in Jamaica, he has attended recent matches against Sheffield United and Southampton and is set to do so again before the season ends.

Patel said Roberts’ lifelong connection to Albion and experience as a player and executive would benefit the club, adding that his enthusiasm to play a role has been clear. Roberts launched his foundation in 2007 to support marginalised communities in the UK and Caribbean, receiving an MBE in 2010. He also played in the Premier League for Portsmouth, Wigan, Blackburn and Reading.
