Jayden Adams, 25, South Africa and Sundowns midfielder, dies

Jayden Adams, 25, has died, the South African federation announced on Saturday. He featured at this summer’s 2026 World Cup with Bafana Bafana.

The federation paid tribute, saying it would forever remember his humility, outstanding talent and the pride with which he represented South Africa. It did not disclose the circumstances of his death.

At the tournament he started the first two Group A matches, a 0-2 defeat to Mexico and a 1-1 draw with the Czech Republic. He came on in the third game, a 1-0 win over South Korea, then remained on the bench for the round of 32 loss to Canada, 0-1.

Adams was an international midfielder for Mamelodi Sundowns, winners of the most recent CAF Champions League.

He earned nine caps for South Africa and scored one goal.
