Andrée Jeglertz says the entire City squad deserve credit for our excellent recent run of form.
The Blues extended our winning run to four successive matches with an impressive 4-1 triumph over London City Lionesses.
Our Head Coach made five changes from the side who beat Everton 3-1 in the League Cup on Wednesday night with goals from Vivianne Miedema and Laura Blindkilde Brown, as well as a Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw brace, earning the points.
In total, 23 different players have featured for City this season, and Jeglertz was quick to praise the impact of every single player after another excellent performance.
He said: “I think when you're building a team with a group of people, I think it’s one of the things that everyone feels valued and that they can contribute to the team's performances.
“That's why I think it’s crucial, as long as you have quality players, which I have, it’s important everyone has a chance to show they can contribute to the team's results.
“This also has been shown in the last games, no matter who’s on the field, they’re great players who are really working hard for the team. It’s important for the group.”
London City Lionesses came into the tie looking for a third win in a row in all competitions, but the Blues roared into an early two-goal lead thanks to Miedema’s header and Blindkilde Brown’s well-taken finish.
Jeglertz expected the visitors to play a more aggressive style at first, but admits that we then had to react when they adapted their gameplan.
“They didn’t come with that much of a high press as we assumed, so if you give our players a lot of time and space they showed there’s so much quality in combination play in the group,” he added.
“That happened at the beginning, we had space and time with the ball and could create scoring chances.
“It became more difficult when they put higher pressure on us and we needed to play a different type of football, but we did that also in a good way.”
