Manchester City head coach Andrée Jeglertz was pleased with how his side connected in-possession during their 4-1 defeat of London City Lionesses at The Joie Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Vivianne Miedema and Laura Blindkilde Brown netted for The Cityzens in the first half before Khadija Shaw bagged a brace in the second period.

When speaking to the media after the match, Manchester City boss Jeglertz said that he was pleased with the connections between his players on the pitch.

“They didn’t come with that much of a high press as we assumed, so if you give our players a lot of time and space, they showed there’s so much quality in combination play in the group,” Jeglertz said. “That happened at the beginning, we had space and time with the ball and could create scoring chances.

“It became more difficult when they put higher pressure on us and we needed to play a different type of football, but we did that also in a good way.”

Jeglertz rotated his side against Everton in midweek before reverting to a more familiar line-up against London City Lionesses. The Manchester City boss says that it’s important for everyone to be getting regular game time.

He said “I think when you’re building a team with a group of people, it’s one of the [important] things that everyone feels valued and that they can contribute to the team’s performances. That’s why I think it’s crucial, as long as you have quality players, which I have, it’s important everyone has a chance to show they can contribute to the team’s results.

“This also has been shown in the last games, no matter who’s on the field, they’re great players who are really working hard for the team. It’s important for the group.”

Jeglertz was only unveiled as Manchester City’s new boss in July and he revealed how he’s settling into life at the club.

He said “I love to go to work every day. I think it’s first of all, a fantastic environment that I’m working in and great players. The staff are also very professional and we have done a couple of changes in how we are working and how we are playing. Everybody is very open-minded in the direction that I want to go with the team. As long as I’m winning, I think everything is fine.”

Manchester City return to action when they face Arsenal at The Joie Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
